Jeffers' Works

The Collected Letters of Robinson Jeffers with Selected Letters of Una Jeffers, Volume One, 1890 - 1930 edited by James Karman
The first of a projected three-volume collection, this volume of 997 pages is a thoroughly researched and annotated collection containing the correspondence between Jeffers and Una Kuster before their marriage, letters from Una Kuster to Edward Kuster written during her time in Europe before their divorce, and letters written by Jeffers to friends, admirers, and fellow poets during his early years at Tor House and the development of his poetic voice. This first volume also contains a beautifully written 134-page introduction by James Karman giving valuable insights about Jeffers, his writing, and his place in the social, political, and artistic landscape of his time. (HB) $95

The Collected Letters of Robinson Jeffers with Selected Letters of Una Jeffers, Volume Two, edited by James Karman
In this second volume of The Collected Letters, editor James Karman continues the masterful scholarship of Volume One.  Volume Two includes the correspondence of Robinson and Una from 1931 to 1939, a difficult decade for the couple.  Jeffers' writer's block and Una's attempts to help, Jeffers' distress over the increasing demands of society on him personally and professionally, and Una's suicide attempt in 1938 are documented and augmented with extensive footnotes.  The resulting 1100-page volume, with 42 black and white photographs, continues the Jefferses' story in the truest, most honest way it can be told.  (HB) $95

The Collected Letters of Robinson Jeffers with Selected Letters of Una Jeffers, Volume Three
This volume of correspondence, the last in a three-volume edition, spans a pivotal moment in American history: the mid-twentieth century, from the beginning of World War II, through the years of rebuilding and uneasy peace that followed, to the election of President John F. Kennedy.  He also faced changes to his hometown village of Carmel, experienced the rewards of being a successful dramatist in the United States and abroad, and endured the loss of his wife Una.  Jeffers' letters, and those of Una written in the decade prior to her death, offer a vivid chronicle of the life and times of a singular and visionary poet. (HB) $95

The Collected Poetry of Robinson Jeffers edited by Tim Hunt
Four volumes of Jeffers' work, including a volume devoted to his early poems (1903-1920), his prose, and unpublished writings, and a fifth volume devoted to textual evidence and commentary.  Tor House currently carries volumes One through Four.  Volume Five can be ordered through Stanford University Press (www.sup.org).   (HB)  All volumes from Tor House $85.
