Tor House Documenting

Tor House, the Carmel home of California’s famous poet, Robinson Jeffers, is one of America’s greatest literary landmarks. The Tor House Foundation is seeking new docents to lead tours. Located on the Carmel coast near the Carmel River, Tor House has a spectacular natural setting, architecture, and beautiful gardens.

On the Naional Historic Register, Tor House is one of the finest and best preserved literary residential treasures in the world. Tour Docents learn about and share information about Jeffers’ life and family, his philosophy and poetry, and cultural artifacts built into the house and Hawk Tower by Jeffers himself.

After docent training, docents lead tours (once or twice a month) of Jeffers’ stone home (1919) and granite tower (1924), reciting poetry and educating visitors on the history of Tor House. Tor House Docents come from all over the greater Bay Area and Central Coast to share the beauty and wonder of Tor House.

Being a docent at Tor House is a very, very special experience. If you are interested in being a conduit of history and literature to our many wonderful international guests, contact Tom Rusert (torusert@torhouse.org) for more information.
